No Easy Fix Ahead For Struggling Economy
8/16/2010
August 16, 2010 by Jeannine Aversa, AP Economics Writer WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Reserve has little power left to lift the economy out of its rut. Congress, with an election looming, has no appetite for more stimulus. Shoppers are reluctant to spend, and businesses are slow to hire. Let's face it: There is no easy or imminent fix for the flagging recovery. The sluggish economic summer wore on Friday with news that Americans spent less at most retail stores in July. This little paragraph tells it like it is that the Obama regime has failed to stimulate the economy because they’ve done nothing for the private sector at all and it’s the private sector that drives the economy not Washington and/or big government. Government does not drive an economy and never will and it shows the inexperience of the Obama regime and that his czars and other appointees have no clue of how to run a country and neither does Obama himself. Obama’s term will be a failure because his inexperience at running a business or anything associated with leadership are non-existent.

We just received our new DMC property tax bill. Another large tax increase. It looks like families will be tightening their budgets so we can give more money to the entitled few for pay increases, Free health insurance and large pensions. This hurts local families and businesses. We also will have less money to support charity organizations. Do they really think that we should vote to raise our taxes for a new police/sheriff office? We can't afford any more tax increases, regardless of what The Hawkeye editorial staff supports. They make me scratch my head sometimes in disbelief. Money must grow on trees with them. The Hawkeye should report the facts on issues and the public can decide. They turn into a cheerleader for the projects that they are roped into by a few that are pushing for their pet projects. They are not serving the public or their readers when they do this. Delaney knows better!
We voted for the sales tax to build the new Burlington schools. At that time we were told this would hold our property taxes down. The Burlington school district shows an 11.5% tax increase. The government employee wages and benefits are not in line with the citizens that are forced to pay these bills. If anybody argues these points, we are negative or naysayers in their eyes. Is this what the young men and women over the years fought for? We should all just shut up while they take more of our money for themselves without our permission.

It should be perfectly clear to America that Obama has thrown his support towards drug dealers, illegal aliens, gangsters, drug runners and Mexico itself while neglecting his oath of office to serve and protect the citizens of the United States and in this case Arizona along with all the states in general. Where in the presidential oath does it say he shall protect Mexico and its drug dealers, drug lords, drug runners, wetbacks, criminals this list of undesirables could go on forever but their the people Obama is representing in Washington and not the American people and/or states.

The United States is running out of time to get its budget and trade deficits under control. Despite the urgency of the situation, 2010 has been wasted in hype about a non-existent recovery.
-Dr. Paul Craig Roberts, former head of policy at the Department of Treasury.
According to the Special Inspector General for TARP, Washington has spent a total of $3.7 trillion on bailouts and Fed money-printing — NOT including trillions in other government guarantees — to fight this recession so far.
Meanwhile, since the labor market began recovering a bit this year, a total of 654,000 jobs have been created.
So let's do the math: Just divide $3.7 trillion spent by the 654,000 jobs that were created, and you'll see that
Every one of those new jobs cost a staggering $5,657,492 to create!
That's more than an outrage; it's patently idiotic: The median income for full-time American workers is only about $45,000. At that rate, it will take nearly 126 long years for each new job to generate paychecks worth over $5.6 million!
And with an average tax rate of 25 percent, it will take the government about five hundred years to recoup the money from income taxes.
Worse: Despite the fact that Washington has thrown money at this recession like there's no tomorrow, nearly TEN MILLION Americans are still relying on unemployment checks to put food on the table:
• Right now, 4.45 million American workers are receiving regular unemployment insurance. Plus,
• Another 5.28 million are receiving emergency benefits just extended again by Congress.
If all this truly could plant the seed for a healthy recovery, it might pay off someday, somehow. But it's not working, and, just as the government's political and financial capital is running out, unemployment is RISING again: Just last week, initial jobless claims were expected to drop. Instead, they surged: A staggering 484,000 workers filed for unemployment benefits for the first time!
Just as we've been warning you, this much-vaunted recovery is proving to be a sham.

From The London Daily Telegraph On Foreign Relations
"Let me be clear: I'm not normally in favour of boycotts, and I love the American people. I holiday in their country regularly, and hate the tedious snobby sneers against the United States. But the American people chose to elect an idiot who seems hell bent on insulting their allies, and something must be done to stop Obama's reckless foreign policy, before he does the dirty on his allies on every issue."
--London Daily Telegraph editor -- Alex Singleton, April 11.
One of the most poorly kept secrets in Washington is President Obama's animosity toward Great Britain, presumably because of what he regards as its sins while ruling Kenya (1895-1963).
One of Barack Hussein Obama's first acts as president was to return to Britain a bust of Winston Churchill that had graced the Oval Office since 9/11. He followed this up by denying Prime Minister Gordon Brown, on his first state visit, the usual joint press conference with flags.
The president was "too tired" to grant the leader of America's closest ally a proper welcome, his aides told British journalists.
Mr. Obama followed this up with cheesy gifts for Mr. Brown and the Queen. Columnist Ian Martin described his behavior as "rudeness personified." There was more rudeness in store for Mr. Brown at the opening session of the United Nations in September. "The prime minister was forced to dash through the kitchens of the UN in New York to secure five minutes of face time with President Obama after five requests for a sit down meeting were rejected by the White House," said London Telegraph columnist David Hughes. Mr. Obama's "churlishness is unforgivable," Mr. Hughes said.
The administration went beyond snubs and slights last week when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton endorsed the demand of Argentine President Cristina Kirchner, a Hugo Chavez ally, for mediation of Argentina's specious claim to the Falkland Islands, a British dependency since 1833. The people who live in the Falklands, who speak English, want nothing to do with Argentina. When, in 1982, an earlier Argentine dictatorship tried to seize the Falklands by force, the British -- with strong support from President Ronald Reagan -- expelled them.
"It is truly shocking that Barack Obama has decided to disregard our shared history," wrote Telegraph columnist Toby Young. "Does Britain's friendship really mean so little to him?" One could ask, does the friendship of anyone in the entire world mean anything to him?
"I recently asked several senior administration officials, separately, to name a foreign leader with whom Barack Obama has forged a strong personal relationship during his first year in office," wrote Jackson Diehl, deputy editorial page editor of the Washington Post, on Monday. "A lot of hemming and hawing ensued." One official named French President Nicolas Sarkozy, but his contempt for Mr. Obama is an open secret. Another named German Chancellor Angela Merkel. But, said Mr. Diehl, "Merkel too has been conspicuously cool toward Obama."
Mr. Obama certainly doesn't care about the Poles and Czechs, whom he has betrayed on missile defense. Honduras and Israel also can attest that he's been an unreliable ally and an unfaithful friend. Ironically, our relations with both Israel and the Palestinian Authority have never been worse. Russia has offered nothing in exchange for Mr. Obama's abandonment of missile defense. Russia and China won't support serious sanctions on Iran. Syria's support for terrorism has not diminished despite efforts to normalize diplomatic relations. The reclusive military dictatorship that runs Burma has responded to our efforts at "engagement" by deepening its ties to North Korea.
And the Chinese make little effort to disguise their contempt for him.
For the first time in a long time, the President of the United States is actually distrusted by its' allies and not in the least feared by its' adversaries. Nor is Mr. Obama now respected by the majority of Americans. Understandably focused on the dismal economy and Mr. Obama's relentless efforts to nationalize and socialize health care, Americans apparently have yet to notice his dismal performance and lack of respect in the world community.
They soon will.

As the United States fights for control of the southern border with Arizona we continue to allow the traffic to flow across.
WASHINGTON -- Determined to show a commitment to stopping the flow of illegal immigrants, the Senate convened a special session Thursday and passed a $600 million bill to put more agents and equipment along the Mexican border.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/08/12/senate-approves-m-border-agents-equipment/The problem is much larger than just our border with Mexico. The Mexican government cannot control its own southern border and they are fighting the same issues and even possibly worse. Their fight will soon become our fight if we do not get a hold of this issue and take control of all of our borders. As stated on 7-22-10 we are also being infiltrated from the northern borders. The news media is just now reporting this issue which has been known for close to 30days.

Commentary on potential terrorist threat
[Columnist Mario Ruiz Redondo in Chiapas, one of Mexico's southern border states, writes in part:]
Porous southern border, ideal for terrorists. Here we have published it repeatedly: The national security of Mexico remains at permanent risk on the southern border with Central America due to there not existing even minimum control of foreigners of diverse nationalities, especially those as distant as the Arab countries, mainly Iraq, who enter Chiapas undocumented. In fact, they have become an excellent business for those who engage in the trafficking of illegal’s in conspiracy with immigration authorities, federal, state and municipal police. Despite the easy detection by their physical appearance and language, they cross without major problems en route to the US. This not so new problem is closely observed by North American agents of the CIA and FBI, infiltrated into the region without authorization by the Mexican government, a presence that reveals Washington’s preoccupation with the vulnerability of its backyard Mexicans, given the prevailing corruption among government representatives who make viable the transit of potential security risks to the North American territory. The report issued this Thursday, July 5, by the US State Department should concern Felipe Calderon’s administration since it warns that the vulnerability of Mexico’s northern and southern borders could be exploited by terrorists trying to enter the US. [The somewhat laborious commentary continues on this theme at length making the point that porosity on both borders enhances the risks of terrorism.]

“Here come the gangsters!”
Palomas, Chihuahua – Upon the appearance of a strange vehicle in town, the residents started to panic. “Here come the gangsters,” some screamed while others sought cover.
This was the result of the murders and mutilation of three men whose heads were put on display yesterday morning in the largest park in this border city near Cd. Juarez.
Hours earlier, members of the Mexican Army had located a burned out truck with the bodies of three decapitated men inside.
It was not yet six in the morning when the residents of this border city became witnesses to yet another atrocious crime and saw for themselves, the brutality of criminal groups committing the murder of their victims.
An old man, a guest in a rest home, routinely went for a morning walk in the park, but this time was halted by the ghastly sight of a bloody face in front of a church. He was paralyzed by the horrific sight.
Three heads had been placed in a triangle on the kiosk in the park located at Progreso and Revolucion Mexicana.
Old men, women and children were horrified by the sight. While being interviewed by the press, the residents saw a strange vehicle in the area and exhibiting fear, almost all at the same time cried “Here come the gangsters!” and disappeared from the park.

“Last month, councilmen began considering passage of an ordinance modeled after a law in Iowa City. The ordinance is intended to curb loitering on public property that hinders or prevents persons from accessing businesses, public facilities, sidewalks and streets.Police Chief Dan Luttenegger said enforcement would be complaint driven, with violators fined $50 or more. The ordinance is expected to be voted on by the council within the next few weeks.”
It would appear to be patrolling problem areas in the community would help resolve some of the issues, even if you used current laws on the books.
Now let me think about this Chief. If the City of Burlington adopts the loitering ordinance of Iowa City and is complaint driven
This would be according to the Iowa City ordnance for loitering8-5-11: STANDING, LOITERING AND OBSTRUCTING PERSONS:
A. With the exception of persons authorized to use the public right of way pursuant to title 10, "Public Ways and Property", of this code no person shall:
1. Congregate, stand, loaf or loiter upon any street, sidewalk, bridge, trail or crossing so as to obstruct the street, sidewalk, bridge, trail or crossing or hinder or prevent persons passing or attempting or desiring to pass thereon. A violation under this subsection can be proven regardless of whether a person or vehicle is actually hindered or prevented from passing.2. Congregate, stand, loaf or loiter in or in front of any hall, lobby, doorway, passage or entrance of any public building, theater, hotel, eating house, lodging house, office building, store, shop, office or factory or other like building so as to obstruct such place or hinder or prevent persons walking along or into or out of such place or attempting or desiring to do so. A violation under this subsection can be proven regardless of whether a person is actually hindered or prevented from passing
If I own a business or property around 9th and Maple and I complain you will show up and give them a warning about leaving the area and loitering? (SOP) The 2nd time you come back you issue them a $50 ticket. (SOP) Since the owner of the property can only make the complaint about people hanging out on their property (SOP) when will they come back and trash the property or become even more dangerous?
The current law that Burlington has should be sufficient to enforce and rid the problem without a complainant other than the officer. It covers more than just a single property owner. It appears that you have all the tools you need to enforce the law as written.
Tell the council to let you do your job.

The U.S. has been bailing out countries at the exspense of our freedoms and tax dollars. If we stop the flow of money then maybe they will stand up and work instead of being on the welfare system of they United States.
Some opinions regarding the Arizona Law decision
Friday, 7/30/10
(Note: U.S. District Judge Bolton’s decision in the AZ Law case was prominently featured in Central and South American newspapers and practically dominated press coverage in Mexico. Mexican syndicated writer Sergio Sarmiento, whose works appear in 22 papers. The column is titled as shown below.)Aliens
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation revealed some days ago that 55% of U.S. citizens are in favor of Arizona Law SB1070 despite acknowledging that it will generate acts of discrimination. Only 40% oppose it. Many Mexicans have begun to tear their hair due to the law. The truth, nevertheless, is that we Mexicans discriminate more against aliens than do the Americans.
There are few studies about the attitude of Mexicans toward aliens. A poll by the Strategic Communications Cabinet in October 2009 pointed out that 38.1% of Mexicans consider that the number of aliens who live in the country is very high, versus 37.7% who say otherwise. What is surprising is that only 0.5% of the country’s residents were born abroad, a very small number. On the other hand, 12.6% of the population of the U.S. was born outside the country. It seems incredible that someone could suppose that there are too many aliens in Mexico.
If we speak about the rights of immigrants, 65.9% of Mexicans polled think that aliens don’t have any right to criticize what occurs in the country.Granted that we Mexicans think that we are very tolerant, the minute percentage of the population born in other countries ought to alert us about our error. In Mexico there is an attitude of mistrust which at times becomes an open disdain toward aliens: Americans, Spaniards, Argentines, Chileans, Lebanese, Jews, Africans. We have immigration rules that would be unacceptable in almost any place of the world, such as the one that obligates an immigrant to live economically dependent of their Mexican spouse, instead of promoting their participation in the labor market. Equally discriminatory is the law that places a limit on the number of aliens that a firm may hire. Aliens are also forbidden to buy real estate on the border or on Mexico’s coasts (while Mexicans have invested tens of millions of dollars in U.S. properties.)
Social and racial discrimination is evident in the case of Central American and black immigrants. The difficulties for a technician or alien worker to obtain residence in Mexico are enormous no matter the benefits their work might have. On the other hand, the law provides that the penalty for the loss of employment by an alien is the immediate expulsion from the country, as if losing a job were a crime.
For decades, Mexicans whose father or mother was born outside the country could not be Presidents of the country. Granted that the restrictive legislation we had has been modified to allow for dual citizenship, Mexicans who have it are not allowed to occupy relevant public charges or have certain jobs, such as commercial aircraft pilot. Worst of all is that international studies show that migration, instead of depriving locals from employment, produces economic growth and prosperity for all.
Perhaps one could blame xenophobic attitudes on ignorance. However, what we can’t do is to question the United States about its laws when we have much more restrictive legislation that has resulted in the number of aliens in our country being one of the lowest in the world.
The temporary and partial suspension of some parts of Arizona Law SB1070 will not resolve the problem of the Mexican migrants. The only real solution is very simple. Let us make the necessary in depth economic reforms to allow us to be more productive. One of those reforms is to open our labor market instead of keeping it tied up with laws worse than those of the United States.
