Public intoxication? Is that all? Looks more like driving under the influence. Do the cops really think we'll believe the car drove itself through a telephone pole and into the yard?

There are only 545 people responsible for all of our current economic and health problems and by the way congress voted to deny themselves the new comprehensive healthcare reform as did all of government. Seems this mess the democrats are creating is only for those outside government, and not the likes of Obama, Congress and the Supreme Court.
Dingy Harry Reid is trying to sneak through the democratic union card agenda inside the health bill to circumvent honest debate on this election payoff bill. Nothing new in Washington it’s business as usual and I thought Obama was going to clean up these 545 liars, back stabbers and cheats running our government.
There should be no health bill unless congress is a part of it along with Obama and the Supreme Court. Why is it always non-government that gets screwed while government continues to live their privileged lives as usual? The same people that ruin our lives are the same ones that say they can save us, just what the hell is this.
Americans are the biggest suckers ever put on this earth by letting 545 people ruin the lives of 300 million. These people in Washington are the biggest liars and cheats ever put on this earth, less the 300 million suckers that let them get away with it. Congressmen are lower than Whale dung and maybe even lower than that if it’s possible.
The American people need to rid themselves of this career congress and get one that is by the people and for the people.

I heard on the news today that our Secretary of State apologized to India for America’s pollution and/or environmental impact.
Why Obama and Hillary would be going around the world apologizing for America about our environmental impact is insane. These two liars are turning the world against us by all this political left wing propaganda in order to force the American people to cough up money for their phony environmental agenda. Just think, India is probably one of the world’s largest polluters and Hillary is over there apologizing for America, what a joke.
India and other nations probably think America in on a suicide mission by all the negative propaganda the president and secretary of state are spreading around the world. These two people are against American society and are doing their best to destroy our way of life along with Pelosi, Reid and Franks.
Just look at the stimulus package, which is just loaded with pork and government waste. America is in the situation it’s in because of the executive and legislative branches of our government and no one else and they are the same ones that plan on helping us out. Thanks but no thanks.
Just like the health care plan which is being written by the most liberal members of the legislative branch and everyone knows what kind of a mess this will be should their version of health care become law? Of course congress voted in advance that they would not have to adhere to the health care plan and would remain covered by their private taxpayer funded plans. Again, what’s good enough for the goose is not good enough for the gander. Any health care plan should be mandatory for the legislative branches as well as the people they supposedly represent.
Everyone should be emailing, writing or calling their legislative members and putting a stop to this health care and cap and trade crap that will both destroy our way of life forever and make us a socialist failing nation. American voters made a disastrous mistake by voting for Obama and his socialist comrades.

WB's West family share beautiful photos of their summer vacation at Rocky Mountain National Park.

By Charlie Reese
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.
You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.
You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.
You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-pickingthing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red ..
If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ
If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible..
They, and they alone, have the power.
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.
Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.
We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!
Falcon,
What's wrong with these elected people? The Supervisors and the dept. heads all wanted pay raises and they all received them and now they are out of money unless they raise our property taxes. How stupid is that? The general public is having a difficult time as is. Don't reach in our pockets and take more from us so you and the unions can have more. Just because they are union employees, does that give them the right or privilege to live better than the prive sector? Heland, Ell, Scott, Davidson, Murray and others seem to think so because they always vote for the raises and the free benefits. Scott thought Slagle should get a 9% pay raise. Look at all the problems, BNSF lawsuit, Water park failure, Manor lies, Firemen lawsuits, all lost. City streets falling apart, bridges closed. Right Tim, he deserved a pay raise. Maybe Slagle helped Scott get his deal with the airport building? Must be some reason he would do something that stupid.
How much longer will the public put up with this? We should not vote for any incumbent in any office. It's time to vote in new people. Will it change with new people? Maybe not, but don't vote for the same people that is screwing you. The local elected officials don't have any problem raising our taxes and handing it over to their union employees or themselves. The elected officials are there to serve the public and they have totally forgotten their responsibility. Their retirements are more than most people make working. Who is serving who? Enough is Enough! They are just greedy, no other way to explain it as we swerve to miss another pothole.

Both Democrat John F. Kennedy and Republican Ronald W. Reagan implemented the same solution to the recessions they faced. Note that both the Democrat and Republican chose exactly the opposite action that the current administration seems determined to fulfill. Kennedy and Reagan lowered the top marginal tax rates. When they did, small businesses hired more people, expanded the middle class, and brought the U.S. Treasury record revenues the years following the implementation. If President Obama wishes to genuinely solve the joblessness problem, all he has to do is embrace the historically proven solution."

Well, our dimwits in Washington have already written into the healthcare bill that they will not be a part of any healthcare reform and will continue with their “special” form of healthcare.
I would think if they shove this disaster down our throats they should be a part of the system also and not receive any special health insurance that they themselves vote for and since none of them represent the general public we have no say in Washington. The people in Washington only look out for themselves and this goes for the current bum in the White House and his 34 Czars.
These people are no better than anyone else and should live by the same rules as the rest of the country and this includes all government employees which includes city, county, state and federal. We can no longer afford to maintain their privileged life styles that have become a burden to every non-governmental taxpayer.

Considering Iowa now allows for sodomites to get married and preach their message of moral degradation for all to be indoctrinated, it is truly amazing that there are still some people with morals in this state. Those with values took a stand against honoring a pedophile at the state fair. What is truly disturbing is the fact that the fair was even considering honoring Michael Jackson. If he was born in Iowa or had done a significant portion of his work here, then one might understand the idea to honor him in butter. But deep down this was a backhanded way for the state government to attempt to further push their agenda of allowing Iowa to glorify and honor those who practice moral debauchery. Iowans need to be commended for taking a stand and doing so by a large margin.

We have a nut case in the White House who wants to destroy the best health care system in the world. His plan is to ruin the health care of 250 million in order to give free health care to 50 million at a cost of 3.4 Trillion dollars. Every insurance expert in the country could tell you Obama is low-balling the price to get it passed. He says it would cost about 1.3 Trillion dollars; impossible.
On top of this he will let corporations pay a $750 fine per employee and they can drop their current plans. What corporation wouldn’t spend $750 to save $6000 per employee?
If I were a union member I’d be calling, writing or emailing my congressman and telling them goodbye if they vote yes on this worthless insurance lunacy. All this president has in mind is to ruin our country from within regardless of the cost. He wants to redistribute the wealth and everything that hard working Americans have fought and died for since America became a nation.
He lied about putting his bills on the Internet prior to congress voting on them and it hasn’t happened at all. On top of that many of his idiot bills such as cap and trade were pushed through so fast that the congress itself never even read it and neither did anyone else.
Taxes will skyrocket on those that have worked hard and deserve all the riches they acquired. Wealthy people are the ones that take all the risk and that’s just the way it is and why shouldn’t they reap the riches from their risk?
If Obama has his mind set on ruining the private sector we should demand all government workers including the congress, and Obama must live under the same plans and rules as we do. Currently we have a two class system one for the private sector and one for the privileged class that’s not accountable to anyone and it’s time Washington join the rest of us and live under the same rules, this should be for all state governments as well as the federal. Our population all lives under the same rules, which include the government.
Congress should no longer be able to take off two years with pay to run for any office and should be forced to take a leave of absence if he or she is not at work or on legal vacation. Our congress and government have been stealing from the taxpayer for many years and lying about it to us on a routine basis.
The speaker of the House should not be allowed to burn hundreds of thousands of gallons of jet fuel for her weekend’s home as is the current policy. By the way the Auto Czar drives some of the biggest gas-guzzlers known to man. Why do we need Czar’s that report to no one but Obama and weren’t even known to the congress and definitely not the public? How much are they being paid to sit on their royal asses and report who knows what to Obama? The American people are fools for letting this behavior go on by the president and that fruitcake Pelosi.
America, you had better wake up or we’re all going down the tubes and this goes for you union members who have been thrown out with the dishwater by the democrats and the president. You had better start writing those letters, emails or phone calls to put a stop to this madness. There isn’t a corporation in this country that won’t pay $750 to save $6000. This is how he plans on forcing all of us to join the government program that will eventually kill all of us. If your 81 and need a knee replacement you can forget it because the government insurance program will won’t waste the money.
Please don’t just sit on your asses and not say anything because everyone will lose except those that have always been on entitlements. Kill our American way in order to enhance the entitlement crowd and illegal immigrants, that’s the plan.
He wants to raise the taxes on corporations, which will drive them out of the country leaving all of us dead in the water. They already pay the 2nd highest corporation taxes in the world and he wants to raise it 50% more. Of course Sacks paid no taxes on several billions of profit, since they claim offshore exemptions when they file their taxes. Sacks, also has the ear of the Obama government and the secretary of the treasury, his old company. Isn’t that just a cozy relationship made in hell?
Obama also goes around the world apologizing for America and I hope to hell he’s talking only about himself because I have nothing to apologize to the world about. This guy is a loon in my opinion and the sooner he’s voted out the better. Our senate voted “YEA” on apologizing for something that happened to our country about 150 years ago and I really think most of them need to be voted out of office and again I hope they voted for themselves because it wasn’t for me. Harkin was right in there voting “YEA” because he’s the #2 liberal democrat in the senate while Obama was #1.
Our constitution says, “We the People” and not “We the president and congress.” It’s our government and we don’t want this crap the president and congress are shoving down our throats. It’s time we take our country back; so lets get those computers, pens and phones working. We don’t have much time to save our country from socialism.

Today's Washington Post refers to "...the daunting challenge of remaking a health system that consumes $1 out of every $6 spent in the country..."
Did you ever wonder why journalists don't refer to other side of the balance sheet when it comes to the health care industry? Of course, they're just mouthing platitudes put out by politicians and their special-interest supporters, but it doesn't take an accounting genius to consider that across the ledger from "expense" is the word "revenue". By repeated exposure to that '1-in-6' figure, you might get the sense that the health care industry is a net drain on the U.S. economy.
Can you imagine a journalist reporting that $1 out of every $6 spent in this country is "consumed" by the media?
For the sake of this discussion, let's set aside aside the health-related outcomes of the medical business, and strictly consider the financial output.
The $1 that the "health system" allegedly "consumes" doesn't just vanish into the ether. In addition to providing tangible, often-measurable benefits to the customer, the dollar also produces the following...
-personal income to support families (including little children) of everyone from insurance agents, to scientists, to medical equipment engineers and manufacturers, nurses, doctors, janitors, food service staff, ambulance drivers and the attorneys who chase them, construction workers, architects and many others;
-tax revenues (real estate, income, sales, corporate, etc.) paid to local, state and federal governments, including politicians who sometimes make factually-inaccurate or misleading statements about the impact of the health care system on the economy;
-tuition and student loan payments for degrees, from community colleges to med schools and a range of educational institutions in between;
contributions to charities, faith communities, public TV & radio, universities from which health care workers earn degrees, and even to incumbent politicians who send out news releases with skewed information about health care and the economy;
-sales of unrelated goods and services to people who draw their income from health care industry employment: homes, cars, fuel, vacations, clothing, food, even newspapers and cable TV that pay journalists who sometimes report one-sided information about crucial economic issues;
-investment income to advance medical science, as makers of drugs and medical gear do R&D to increase the effectiveness of their products;
retirement income for people who have invested in the stock of medical firms;
investment income for medical firm stockholders that then gets spent on luxury goods, commodities and everything in between.
This is not an argument for the current pricing structure (already overly-influenced by government's regulation, price fixing and subsidies). It's an effort to bring balance to the discussion, or at least discussion of the balance sheet.
A dollar "consumed" by anything but government, generally produces a dollar, more or less, in value, as well as a ripple effect through the economy that generates benefits for people in all socioeconomic strata. The one sure way to louse up this beneficent cycle of blessing is to increase control by politicians and bureaucrats who have understanding of neither health care, nor basic economics.
As you travel your community today, look at the homes, the cars, the stores, the people, the medical offices, the hospital and realize that $1 out of every $6 spent in this country supports a quality of life unsurpassed in world history, for you, your family and your neighbors, thanks to the health care industry.
There now, that should make you feel better.

"Obama says that his START [Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty] will be a great boon, setting an example to enable us to better pressure North Korea and Iran to give up their nuclear programs. That a man of Obama's intelligence can believe such nonsense is beyond comprehension. There is not a shred of evidence that cuts by the great powers -- the INF treaty, START I, the Treaty of Moscow (2002) -- induced the curtailment of anyone's [nuclear] programs. Moammar Gaddafi gave up his nukes the week we pulled Saddam Hussein out of his spider hole. No treaty involved. The very notion that Kim Jong Il or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will suddenly abjure nukes because of yet another U.S.-Russian treaty is comical. The pursuit of such an offensive weapons treaty could nonetheless be detrimental to us. Why? Because Obama's hunger for a diplomatic success, such as it is, allowed the Russians to exact a price: linkage between offensive and defensive nuclear weapons. This is important for Russia because of the huge American technological advantage in defensive weaponry. We can reliably shoot down an intercontinental ballistic missile. They cannot. And since defensive weaponry will be the decisive strategic factor of the 21st century, Russia has striven mightily for a quarter-century to halt its development. Gorbachev tried to swindle Reagan out of the Strategic Defense Initiative at Reykjavik in 1986. Reagan refused. As did his successors -- Bush I, Clinton, Bush II. Obama, who seeks to banish nuclear weapons entirely, has little use for such prosaic contrivances."

I’m getting sick of hearing about Michael Jackson; so why can’t the drive by media drop the hoopla and get back to the news? I can’t think of any famous Americans that ever received this overkill of the press when they died and I’m talking about people that were American heroes.
There is seriously something wrong with this country when it comes to selecting those to receive such out of ordinary coverage by the Obama run and controlled news media.
Is all this attention to Jackson for the purpose of drawing attention away from Obama, a person that’s set on destroying our country from within while the dimwitted self serving congress does nothing by kiss his rear end and fail to even reading the bills they rubber stamp for him? Of course Obama doesn’t give congress enough time to read anything they vote on and I assume most of the congress can’t read anyway and depend on the hired help to do the reading for them.
Either way it’s time to let Jackson go; so give us a break from this crap.

Fireworks celebrate our nation’s 233rd birthday behind an America Flag flying on Broadway Street in West Burlington Saturday night. Wet weather didn’t appear to dampen sprits as West Burlington’s annual event drew large crowds. The event was also a birthday party for the city of West Burlington, which turned 125-years old in February.
5-year old Jaelyn Miller of Burlington plays with sparklers as she and her dad wait for the main fireworks display at West Burlington’s Fourth of July celebration Saturday night.
Are we done lying to ourselves? Are we willing to admit we screwed up? More importantly are we done trying to say we have this awesome President who is being treated unfairly with the rare criticism that he is actually being given in the mainstream media?
Recently, as I was reading through different online news articles and the comment sections to each article, I couldn’t help but notice a similar theme to each of them. The theme goes something like this “Barrack Obama is a good president, to say anything else makes you a right-wing idiot.” Or my favorite it makes you a “close-minded” person to say anything negative about Obama.
Anyways, as I was reading through the comments of others I came across a couple of the following:
· “I have never seen a more harshly treated President. Ever. And I have been alive to see Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush Jr., and now Obama.”
· “The way the people in this country behave is completely and utterly incomprehensible.”
These are a couple of the many quotes I came across and I will be honest I did a double take over these quotes. To say that Obama is being treated worse than any of the recent Presidents is complete bogus. The only President who can honestly say he was criticized from all directions is George W. Bush. He had a media with a vendetta against him, he had Americans who are gullible and listen to whatever Liberal America wants them too. And yet Obama is the “poor president”? Give me a break.
Three months into office, President Obama effectively signed a check to the amount of $800,000,000,000.00 made payable by the United States Government. Actually, that’s a lie, that check was made payable by some foreign governments, because America can’t afford that much spending.
President Obama six months into his Presidency has attached himself to the reform of health care (something that isn’t in dire need of reform by the way.) What was the estimated figure on that project? At least $1,000,000,000,000.00. That’s right ladies and gentlemen we’re not even in the billions anymore!
So, so far we have a president who has spent away 800 billion dollars and wants to put at least 1 trillion towards a health care reform?
And yet, we’re expected to go along with this? We’re expected to roll over and let our taxes go over the roof? Honestly, the government (both federal and states) are already looking at every single possible way to tax us. Is it really necessary to keep piling on the already outrageous debt this nation is in?
And to the gentlemen who said that the way the people in this country behave is completely and utterly incomprehensible. Yes, I agree with you, the people of this nation are so ignorant and idiotic it’s just rather sad. But in essence this reflects my generation quite well… spend what you don’t have and forget all of the morals that have helped make this great nation, great.
At this rate, my future grandchildren will live in an America where democracy is laughed at, where America is known as the country with no back bone what-so-ever, and more importantly a country that gives it peoples no individual freedom.
We’ve set ourselves up for this future. We have a man in the Presidency that ought not be there. For a true United States President commands the respect of the world, whether they like him or not. A true United States President leads his nation and sets the tone to world affairs. What a United States President does not do is wreck the United States economy. What a United States President does not do is act cowardly and timid. A United States President does not back down when foreign regime leaders threaten the safety and security of this nation or of other nations in the world.
Barrack Obama has already done almost irreparable damage to this country and he’s been in office for less than a year. Let’s hope America will have grown up enough and matured by 2012 to look past the color of a person but rather at the contents and character of the individual.

Far more jobs than expected were lost last month as the unemployment rate hit 9.5 percent, the highest in 26 years.
467,000 jobs were lost according to the Labor Department, 100,000 more than economists had expected, with virtually no major economic sector spared.

With the death of Michael Jackson and all the attention it’s been getting on TV and the press, who in the world is watching Obama and monitoring the crap he’s forcing through our spineless dimwits in Washington? Our non-representation in Washington pass bills having never read them nor have a clue about what they’re doing to ruin the American way of life for generations to come.
Obama is proof the American voter is ignorant, uneducated and very easy to hood wink into believing lies perpetrated by a smooth talking person no one knows anything about. Can anyone tell us where our president was born, what schools he attended and how did he get the money to front his education in the Ivy League schools. Did he every have a job? What’s the true story about his father? Has anyone seen his birth certificate? How could he attend a church for 22 years and never hear the pastor, a known racist say anything bad about whites or others.
Wake up America we are being destroyed from within and this Obama character is doing it with the help of a spineless, dimwitted congress.

Falcon,
The Hawkeye newspaper is worthless and doing the people that buy it a great disservice. Today in the paper there was no mention of the horrendous energy package "cap and trade" that Obama and his cronies are trying to push through, congress signed on without even reading what's in it, there were 300 pages of amendments added to it just before they signed it! This was done on a Friday so the news groups wouldn't have all week to talk about it. The EPA covered up documents on global warming, knowing that its a bunch of bull, so Obama can get this green energy bill passed. This bill alone will cost every family up to 1800.00 more a year to heat and cool their homes, not to mention the cost of gas, clothing, groceries, etc, will rises greatly.
Obama's stimulus package is not working, the unemployment rates are higher than Obama stated and going higher. Obama's National Health package is a disaster. The America that we know is no longer and people don't seem to realized how critical this is!
The Hawkeye seems to want to keep it's readers in the dark, and Steve D., says he's a republican, sure could fool me. Obama's sweet talk campaign promises for not taxing the middle class is going by the wayside, his sweet talk was just that, to get elected now that he's in charge the real person is coming through, he got his start in Chicago politics which everyone knows is quite corrupt, but these tactics seem to be working in Washington. Please citizens wake-up, because Obama's plans for America is straight up Socialism. It's time to save what rights our great men and woman fought for over the years, tell Washington no more!

Looking at the arrest blotter it would seem a barbed wire fence around 701 E. Pennington would end much of the criminal activity in the West Burlington area.
How could so many bottom feeders live in one area? Why does the criminal element or the, “I just don’t give a damn element,” have such an attachment to 701 E. Pennington? Does anyone know what draws them to this location?
